Простое предложение: убрать кнопку "Переключить звук в браузере" (Правильнее "Включить/Отключить звук") с панели инструментов и сделать такую кнопку для каждой вкладки, где есть аудио, как сделано в некоторых браузерах. В процессе работы может быть открыто несколько вкладок с аудио, сейчас нет возможности отключить звук на не нужных вкладках. Добавить к значку "На этой вкладке воспроизводится аудио" функцию "Включить/Отключить аудио".
