Regarding video download functionality, I can understand a reluctance to add a feature which many third-party extensions can achieve, but perhaps you could provide functionality they can't. I wonder if having access to internal APIs would allow you to implement the ability to download DASH/segmented videos in a convenient way not really possible with typical downloader extensions.
Segmented videos are becoming more and more common, and they're annoying. Very few extensions provide any functionality to piece them together, and even if they do, it's only on a site by site basis, since they all seem to require slightly different methods to do so.
Wouldn't it be possible to provide a built-in media downloader to force cache the entire file and download it?
