Clean Cache
#1
I noticed the empty space on my system drive disappearing and discovered a folder that isn't cleared when I clear the cache.
USER\AppData\Local\CentBrowser\User Data\component_crx_cache
deleting all files from this directory does not lead to any fatal consequences
There's no similar folder in Google Chrome. The folder's size
USER\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data
isn't growing uncontrollably. I add folder component_crx_cache to CCleaner.
Please, add the folder to Disk Cleanup in browser, is it possible.
P.S. Most likely, the folder size increased dramatically after experimenting with subtitles.

Quote:The component_crx_cache folder in Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Chrome) stores cached extension and component files, often causing large file size issues, failed profile syncs, and HTTP 413 errors in virtualized environments. It is safe to delete, though it will likely regenerate. Excluding %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\component_crx_cache from syncing resolves these issues.

The cleanup of this cache directory is done in the help -> Wipe browsing data menu in the top right corner of the browser.  Smile

What addresses does the browser access when it starts up in order to allow direct access to them in the proxy settings?

Depending on your configuration in chrome://settings/onStartup. If you're logged in Google account, it needs to visit google.com and googleapis.com.

I'll "hijack" this topic since i have same question - what is the "safe" way to clear cache?

When i tried Help>Wipe and marked Clear Cache, browser warned that i'll be logged-off from all/most websites = that's not a disaster, still definitely not what i'd wish to do, as my goal is to simply clear cache(temporary files) only, not to wipe all cookies and sessions along.
In fact IMHO clearing cookies and login-off should be a separate option in that Wipe menu, not mixed with web cache clear.

Yet i'm aware of "Choose what to clear every time you exit the browser" option in Privacy and Security section of the Settings - but again there is no option to clear Only cache, while lots of options to clear cookies, passwords, history, etc = so even here there is no safe-sure separate option to clear only cache.

In the "Wipe browsing data" dialog box, if the "Delete network cache" option is not checked, it will not delete Cookie files. This option determines whether the User Data\Default\Network folder should be removed during the cleanup process.

This only proves my fear that Wipe menu is noway suitable for clear cache - so what is the proper/safe way?

Use chrome://settings/clearBrowserData to delete browsing data.

Adding it to the browser's built-in cleanup options would be a useful way to prevent unnecessary disk usage and save users from having to clear it manually.
